Good Mic For Wind Instruments And Low Vocals Too
Will_Prince_PL 26.05.2020
Nice mic, not expensive but sounds great. I bought it beucase I needed better mic for recording wind instruments, also it would be nice to have mic for kick drum and bass amp, and that one does it too. I recorded trombone with it, first time I recorded wind instrument ever, and it sound great. It happened to be great vocal mic too! My voice is low, I was trying to record some vocals for something and I used copy of SM58, it didn't sound good, maybe it was cheap copy, maybe 58s doesn't fit my voice. I sang thru BD 200 instead and it sounded great, never recorded my voice myself with quality that good. I didn't bother to put that mic on a stand, I held it with my hand and make some unnecesary hitting noises which can be heard on recording, but that's my fault, it's not supposed to be hand held. And it comes with great bracket too. It's metal, very solid and it also looks nice, I don't know how to describe it in English, you can see it on the photos.

It really surprise me the versatility of this mic. Strong steel housing, good enough sound quality for a medium dynamic membrane. Surprisingly good for tenor sax, some vocals. I use it for my all around case for sound checks and auxiliary jobs.

Fantastic value!
Mike9617 25.03.2014
I bought this microphone thinking that it would be okay but not outstanding. It was very inexpensive and because of this I didn't expect much, I was wrong! Even though the bass drum I was using was very small,16 inches diameter, the microphone managed to capture plenty of low-end and attack.
The bass drum itself is a small jazz drum, it has no padding whatsoever and is double skinned without a hole. I thought this may be a problem as it is much easier to Mic a bass drum which is well damped and single skinned. In this case I wanted a rock type sound so I placed a padded coat over the front of the bass drum and placed the mic about 8 cm from this. It gave a lovely deep sound and I found it very suitable for this type of music.
If you are on a budget I strongly recommend this microphone!

Best Budget Option for Toms!
wide eyes 16.10.2021
I bought some of these, along with a couple other budget/standard mic options, to experiment and perfect my home studio drum sound. These won, hands down, for toms. The mic's frequency response is perfect for toms, and I didn't have to do much processing in the mix to feel content. They are bigger than I expected, and can handle bass very well, so I've been using one on my bass cabinet as well.

Well built, but kind of dull sound.
Dirty Five Given 22.10.2020
You can't beat this price, so obviously this won't be a world class mic.
It's built surprisingly well - heavy, sturdy, with a nice feel to it.
As for the sound - I'm not getting much output level from it, and what I do get is kind of dull, with very little attack or clarity.
It is useable, and for me - it's fine, cause I need it mostly for demoing - so if you just need something cheap and simple - I think you'll be happy with it.

EB
Ok only for rehearsal spaces (Review as a Kick Mic)
Edgar Blackdagger 04.03.2023
I usually use a Samson C03 as a Kick-in mic and I love it, but I needed something for the extremely heavy hitters, so that it could handle any spl.

Pros:

-Indeed handles any spl
-Very sturdy construction

Cons:

-Sounds very bad, with huge 150Hz and 500Hz buildup
and there's almost no high end.
-Very low sound rejection, there was way too much snare and cymbals in the Kick channel, more than even the condenser mics I've tried.
-Ugly off-axis coloration, typically bad, as with most dynamic mics, but paired with its low off-axis rejection, it's a recipe for disaster.

All in all:

It's ok if you just need a cheap mic for bass drum reinforcement in a rehearsal space, but frankly this is not a kick drum mic,
it might be nice for vibey brass or even harmonica or any thin sounding source that needs some weight,
but I wouldn't put this near anything that already sounds big.

Great live mics
Anonymous 24.02.2015
We have several of these which we use for both saxes (Alto, Tenor & Bari) and Kick Drum. The units are solid and the mount is built in which makes things a little easier at setup - also easier to work out which mics go where in our 9-piece format.
The sound quality is more than acceptable for the price and we've not yet had any fail despite having had some dropped and knocked over on-stage during build and breakdown.
Great value and I would certainly recommend

You get what you pay for
Denmus 18.06.2020
You really do get what you pay for and this mic is no exception. Having said that though for the money it's not too bad, in fact recording djembe using it as a floor mic and recording guitar it's not a bad little mic and does the job if used in conjunction with other better mics giving you an extra track which can be eq-ed to give you extra bottom end range.

Big mic, big sound!
Aadrie B. 02.03.2024
I use this on toms, so anything mentioned below is in reference to that.

Pro's:
Amazing frequency response & overall tone! Most tom mic's start picking up sound around 50-ish hz but I love that this bad boy picks up sound starting from 20hz, those subs just add a really nice overall weight to your toms. Build quality is also great, literally built like a tank. Every rehearsal, recording or show these are getting hit A LOT on accident during fills or grooves but this mic does not care!

Cons:
For using it as a tom mic, this microphone is big! Don't use this on a clip-mount! On a 16" floor tom this is not a problem but on a 12" rack tom, you're gonna be hitting it quite a bit (but this mic could survive a fallout so you're all good on that part). Use this mic on stands or very flexible mounts when mic'ing rack toms!

Honestly, just buy it, it's cheap as heck.

BD 200

The Price meets quality: A new way miking the bass drum. Enough bottom, to get the vibe, enough brightness for Bass drum. A good cheap way to start, if you are running with a limited budget. Semi-pro quality
