Active subwoofer for a good bass boost

With the CL 115 Sub MK II, the box offers an active subwoofer whose power amplifier can additionally supply up to two passive top units with power. The speaker can thus form the central element of a system consisting of one or more subwoofers with corresponding satellites. With dimensions of 460 mm × 630 mm × 610 mm (W x H x D) and a weight of 40 kg, the bass-reflex model is certainly not one of the smallest or lightest representatives of its kind. On the other hand, the subwoofer with its 15" speaker has an impressive frequency response down to 35 Hz and offers a high sound pressure level of up to 122 dB (SPL). The internal power amplifier delivers 220 W (RMS) to the built-in speaker and 220 W (RMS) to each of the two optional top units.

We thought of everything

The power amplifier module of the CL 115 is located on the rear and, in addition to the IEC connector with power switch, all connection options and controls required for use are located here. To transmit the input signal, two jack/XLR combo sockets as well as RCA connectors can be used. This should provide control in any situation. With the main volume control, the level of the entire system can be adjusted and, in addition, the volume of the subwoofer can be controlled separately. If necessary, the CL 115's signal can be phase-reversed with the flick of a switch. On the output side, there are two lockable Speaker Twist sockets that can be used to pass the signal to passive speakers with at least four ohms.

Perfect entry-level model

The CL 115 Sub MK II from the box is primarily aimed at beginners in the field of public address systems. Here, it impresses not only with its extremely low price, but also with its good sound and the extensive connection and control options. Thanks to these, it is suitable for many sound systems without the need for an additional controller and can be used for party and DJ applications as well as for live music. For bands of all styles, the active subwoofer performs well in the rehearsal room and, if required, it can also be used at any time as part of a sound system at smaller gigs.

About the box

"the box" brand has been part of the Thomann range since 1998. Built exclusively by renowned manufacturers, "the box" products have established a solid reputation for outstanding quality and durability. Price-conscious customers are often interested in the brand's active and passive speaker systems, bass cabinets, keyboard amplifiers, and drum monitor systems. One in forty Thomann customers has already bought at least one item from "the box".

Adaptable system

With the Cl series, the box offers systems that are easy to expand and adapt to the intended application. The CL 115 Sub is suitable for DJs and live musicians who, for example, have to meet different requirements at weddings. Whether for background and speech amplification, guitar duos, or dance floor parties with plenty of bass presence, the appropriate components can be combined. Thanks to the well thought-out features such as the stand flange mount and the castors built into the back, the CL 115 Sub is easy to transport and quick and uncomplicated to set up. If, in addition to passive satellites, other active components are to be integrated into the system, the input signal can be transferred directly to other systems via two XLR sockets.

Serious piece of kit!!
Richard173 16.06.2016
Never seen anything like this before? Fantastic for small duo's single artists etc! We started a classic rock duo, so the bands big PA kit was not ideal, being 12,000 watts and too large! As I do, I first check the Thomman web, I mean if they don't have it, nobody does! The Box CL115 Sub is fantastic, with the built in amp powering both the bin and top speakers, which are directly connected from the bass bin. Basically all you need is a desk, satellite speakers and the Box CL115 Mk11! Oh and a mic!! The power of the built in amp runs the tops at 4ohms, I use SX100 which are 8 ohms so the power drops a bit, but the amp peaks at 500 watts for the tops and bass bin speakers, which loud enough! Check it out, well worth a look! Best buy for us 'Jack Danielz Rock Band' this year!!

A
Fantastic Bass Response
Anonymous 06.02.2017
The only thing I can really say that is 'negative' about the Sub is that it weighs a lot... But that also means that it's excellent quality and a great performing speaker!
We use this sub in combination with the CL 108 Tops MKII and they perform very well in big rooms up to 150 people.
We love using it, and if you want to feel the bass, there is absolutely no problem there!
I would definitely recommend, just live it!

Sounded good, while it worked
mateva 11.11.2020
I have to admit I was delighted with the overall perormance of the speaker. HOwever, after only using it 3 times it stopped working, so now I'm arranging a return with Thomann. This is being handled highly professionally, as always with Thomann. So my only complaint would be that the woofer is not working and I have additional work and cost with this. I hope it gets repaired or replaced quickly and upon recieving it back I'll revise the review wth additional experience.

Very smooth, versatile deep bass subwoofer
Bruce M 02.09.2020
I got this as a replacement sub for an HK subwoofer, which broke that fed 2 small satelite speakers in a church setting.
This sub does a fantastic job as a replacement and the sub is well rounded and deep. Easy to use for the church volunteers, can be used as an amplifier for 2 satelite speakers and no sub output if needed which is very useful. Great for full band setups, spoken word and movie nights. Casters on the back do not rattle and are very useful to wheel it away when not used. Fan is quiet, but noticable when silent
